Dear Reader,
My boss is a boomer, I’m a millennial, and most of my colleagues are either Gen-Zs or confused millennials who identify as Gen-Zs.
At a time when journalism is under threat, my boomer-boss is the anchor who, even as he laments the post-truth world we are living in, reminds us that not all is lost. In fact, journalism and journalists, matter now more than ever. Every so often, he turns our editorial meetings into history lessons — giving us perspectives, warning us of potential pitfalls, and helping us see the bigger picture. But he’s also adept at keeping things light — our office WhatsApp group is often treated to memes and reels from him for us to share a laugh.
We, the millennials and Gen-Zs, step in when he finds it hard to keep up with the newer generation. Some of his ‘wokeness’ is probably the ideas of his younger ‘AI-native’ and social media-savvy colleagues rubbing off on him. But it won’t be right if I don’t mention that we don’t agree all the time.
That, I reckon, is probably why The Quint has appealed to a vast and varied audience for the past decade. Across three generations, we bring to the table our own sets of values (and yes, they are all unique and important), support one another while holding each other accountable, and speak truth to power.
Ten years back, The Quint’s inception coincided with a major political shift in India. Starting out as one of India’s first digital and media-tech companies, it was anybody’s guess what the 10-year milestone would be. But it is astounding to see all we’ve accomplished over the years, even as a small player in the vast sea of established media giants, and even as the going gets tougher with every passing day.
Our newsroom has earned a reputation for uncovering hate crimes, covering India’s job crisis, and highlighting the urgent issue of climate change. Apart from that, our recent investigations on electoral bonds and EVM data, our coverage of the COVID-19 migrant exodus and the Manipur violence, warrant a mention. Our small team of reporters hit the ground running more often that it is sometimes (financially) possible for us.
Of course, we make mistakes, but we promise to keep learning from them. And that’s possible because we have each other in the newsroom, and we have YOU. Thank you for joining us on our journey to uphold journalistic integrity as a member. We really value your support!
If you haven’t become a member yet, we’d love a birthday gift! Join us in staying informed, holding those in power accountable, and questioning everything. Get 10% OFF* on all Membership plans — Become a Quint Member* today!
