In a major setback to drug mafia active in the interstate border Nurpur police district, the State Home Secretary issued detention orders yesterday against two habitual drug peddling offenders under section 3(1) of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (PIT-NDPS) Act. The notorious drug peddling offenders were active in the border areas under Fatehpur and Damtal police stations jurisdiction and had been arrested multiple times after recovery of heroin (chitta) from their possession.
The district police, after procuring detention orders, have arrested the duo who had been released by the court on bails in the past.
Till today, the police have procured five such orders from the home secretary under the PIT-NDPS Act paving the way of prolonged jail to the offenders and their financial investigation of the drug earned assets. These orders are being considered strong weapons to nail drug traffickers in this inter-state border area.
SP Nurpur Ashok Ratan told The Tribune that yesterday’s detention orders had been issued against Sagar, alias Ajay, son of Tita Ram of Jhikla Moch under Fatehpur police station. He was the main drug supplier in the area. He said the accused was a habitual drug peddler recently arrested on August 21 last year with 50-gram chitta. He had been arrested many times in the past too with synthetic drugs.
“Owing to his frequent involvement in drug trafficking, the district police had sent a proposal to the Secretary (Home) on September 26 last year and the detention authority had issued a detention order on Saturday,” he said.
The SP said the district police had also procured the detention order against another habitual drug peddling offender Pinki, wife of Daleep Kumar, of Chhanni village under Damtal police station on Saturday. He said she was active as an interstate drug smuggler in this border area and was last time arrested on April 10, 2024 under the NDPS Act.
“Four drug peddling cases were already registered against her during the period between May 2021 and March 2024 but she has been bailed out by the court every time and she resumed her illegal activities in drug peddling in the area.
Finally, the district police had submitted a proposal for procuring her detention order on September 26 last year and issued by the competent authority facilitating the police to conduct a financial investigation of her drug-earned assets,” he said.
