A one-day free health check-up camp organised by APG Shimla University’s School of Allied & Healthcare Sciences, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 200 people availing medical consultations and diagnostic services.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC Shimla, who attended as the chief guest. A team of specialist doctors from IGMC, including orthopaedic specialist Dr Ravi, ophthalmologist Dr Ankush, and general medicine expert Dr Akhil, provided medical examinations and consultations. The initiative was aimed at offering free medical advice, essential healthcare services and diagnostic facilities to local villagers, university faculty and students.
Speaking at the event, Dr Rahul Rao stressed the importance of educational institutions and healthcare organisations working together to ensure accessible healthcare. He highlighted how such health camps help bridge the gap in medical services, particularly benefiting women, children, and the elderly. Dr Rao also advised young students to prioritise their physical and mental well-being, urging them to steer clear of substance abuse. Praising the joint efforts of APG Shimla University and IGMC, he encouraged the continuation of such community health initiatives in the future.
APG Shimla University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rajendra Singh Chauhan, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to community welfare. He stated that the university regularly organises free health camps to provide timely healthcare services and promote health awareness among the general public.
With its focus on community service and healthcare accessibility, the health camp proved to be a significant step toward ensuring better medical outreach for residents in and around Shimla.
