In a major step towards rural development, HDFC Bank Parivartan and the Aashray Foundation have installed 200 solar streetlights across 15 villages in Chamba district. The initiative, part of the Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP), aims to strengthen infrastructure and improve the quality of life for rural communities.
According to Surbhi Mahajan, Assistant Programme Manager at Aashray Foundation, the solar lights have been placed at key locations such as schools, primary health centres (PHCs), panchayat buildings and public spaces, ensuring safe and uninterrupted lighting for villagers. The installation sites were carefully selected with the active participation of panchayat members, village development committees, and local residents.
The project has been implemented in the villages of Nanu, Sarol, Kiyani, Gaila, Haripur, Rajpura, Bharo, Rajnagar Khas, Rupani, Rinda, Suren, Udaipur Khas, Saru, Pukhri, and Bhooman. With these solar lights now in place, the villagers can navigate public areas more safely, particularly at night, enhancing both security and convenience.
Mahajan further stated that the Aashray Foundation is also running various rural development initiatives, including agriculture programmes, infrastructure improvements, and handicraft projects, aimed at boosting self-employment and economic empowerment in these communities.
