Mumbai: The city traffic police are leveraging digital signboards, X, and print media to inform citizens about their intensified action against drunk driving throughout the city and the first information reports (FIR) registered daily. Since the commencement of their special campaign on Apr 4, traffic police have booked 81 motorists as of Saturday.
To serve as a warning, the identities of individuals caught during these operations will be displayed on X (formerly Twitter). Their driving licences will be forwarded to transport authorities for potential suspension or revocation.
On Saturday, authorities filed 12 FIRs against motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol in the city. “Names of these motorists… were flashed by traffic police on X.
Joint commissioner of police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare said that the drive has been initiated to create deterrent against people caught driving drunk. “Vehicles will be impounded of those caught since April 4 during the special drive. Also, details of their driving licence have been sent to the regional transport officr for suspension…” he said.
