NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta started a new tradition on Monday by making ceremonial ‘Kheer’ before the first budget session of her government in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Thanking everyone who contributed to the budget, she said, “A big congratulations to all the leaders, ministers, MLAs, and people who gave their suggestions, as well as our leadership under which we have crafted this budget.”
She further added, “For the first time, such a ceremony has been held in Delhi. Kheer ki mithas se budget. It has been offered to Lord Ram and will now be served to the people who contributed their suggestions.”
The budget session, the first under the BJP government, will take place from 24 to 28 March, with a possibility of extension. The state budget will be presented on 25 March. This session is important as the BJP has returned to power in Delhi after 27 years.
Earlier, auto drivers, traders, and shopkeepers gathered at the Vidhan Sabha to join the ‘Kheer’ ceremony. BJP MLA Karnail Singh said, “People from all sections of society, including traders and shopkeepers, have been invited. Today marks the first day of the budget session. ‘Meethi kheer, meetha budget’.”
During the session, CM Rekha Gupta will move a motion for electing members to key financial committees. As per the List of Business, she will propose the election of nine members each to the Committee on Public Accounts, Committee on Estimates, and Committee on Government Undertakings for the term starting 1 April 2025.
Deputy speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and Om Prakash Sharma will also present the First Report of the Business Advisory Committee, which will outline the assembly’s legislative plans. Sanjay Goyal and Poonam Sharma will submit the First Report of the Committee on Private Members’ Bills.
Meanwhile, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will be tabled in the House during the session. This will be the third CAG report presented in the assembly.
