New Delhi: A Delhi court, while sentencing a man to life imprisonment for raping and murdering a four-year-old girl in 2014, observed that the manner of committing the offence shows that the convict had a “very severe form of criminal mentality.” If he is dealt with leniency, then he could be a threat to society at large, it added.
“For the sake of society, the convict is required to be kept away from society for a time period as long as possible,” said the court of additional sessions judge Amit Sahrawat.
The judge was hearing arguments on the sentencing of 23-year-old Karan Singh, who was convicted for the offences of murder and causing the disappearance of evidence in Dec 2024.
According to the prosecution, Singh kidnapped the minor, raped her, and then murdered her by slitting her throat with a knife. While slitting the girl’s throat, he was smiling and captured the act on a mobile phone.
Special public prosecutor Sandeep Kaur stated that Singh was enjoying his brutal act, which also showed the criminal mentality of the convict.tnn
