NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old movie director was apprehended for alleged sexual assault of a 28-year-old woman in central Delhi on Sunday.
According to police, an FIR was registered at Nabi Karim police station on March 6, based on a complaint by the woman. The case was registered under sections related to rape, assault, causing miscarriage, and threatening.
“In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was raped, assaulted, and forced to undergo three abortions during her four-year live-in relationship with the accused in Mumbai,” DCP (central) M Harsha Vardhan said.
“She further alleged in the FIR that the accused individual brought her to a hotel in Nabi Karim, was physically involved with her, and later reneged on his promise to marry her, prompting her to file an official police complaint,” DCP Vardhan added.
After the case was registered, police teams were formed to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter. “We used technical surveillance and intelligence to track down the accused. During the investigation, medical papers related to the alleged abortions were also collected from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar,” a senior police officer said.
Technical surveillance helped police track his location to Ghaziabad, where he was apprehended. The accused person is married and lives with his family in Mumbai. Delhi High Court also rejected his bail application, police said. Further investigation is underway.
