New Delhi: Two days after BJP councillors claimed to have met with chief minister Rekha Gupta regarding alleged fund cuts in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) under the previous state govt, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) issued a detailed response.
In its statement, AAP outlined the achievements of its two-year tenure in the MCD, highlighting the restoration of a deteriorating revenue system, the timely disbursement of salaries, the regularisation of over 12,000 employees, and the proper allocation of funds by Delhi govt during their tenure. AAP clarified that “all MCD councillors were treated fairly, with fixed local area development (LAD) funds, similar to MLA LAD funds. In fact, BJP councillors received additional funds beyond their standard allocation,” the statement read.
AAP further stated that BJP-led MCD had emptied the treasury even before AAP took power in 2022. “A huge liability running into crores existed at that time. Any current deficiencies are the result of 15 years of misrule by the BJP in the MCD,” the party added.
During their meeting with the CM on Friday, BJP councillors claimed that the MCD had been subjected to discriminatory treatment under the previous AAP govt in Delhi. They pointed to cuts in funding for the development of both authorised and unauthorised colonies, slum improvements, community buildings, urban roads, foot overbridges, and park maintenance, which they argued led to a funds deficit.
