NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma etched his name in IPL history on Saturday with a record-breaking knock of 141 off just 55 balls — the highest individual score ever by an Indian in the Indian Premier League.
His breathtaking innings, laced with 14 fours and 10 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 256.36, came during SRH’s successful record chase of 246 against Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Abhishek’s blitz now sits third on the all-time list of highest IPL scores, only behind Chris Gayle’s iconic 175 and Brendon McCullum’s 158. His century — the first of his IPL career — came off just 40 balls, making it the third-fastest by an Indian after Yusuf Pathan (37) and Priyansh Arya (39).

Abhishek also stole the hearts of SRH fans with his unique celebration. After reaching his ton, he pulled out a folded note from his pocket that read: “This one is for Orange Army.” The heartfelt tribute to the home fans went viral and had the stadium erupting in cheers.

Retained for Rs 14 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Abhishek’s commanding knock couldn’t have come at a better time for SRH.

Riding on Abhishek’s record-breaking feat, SRH defeated Punjab Kings by 8 wickets as they chased down the record target with nine balls to spare.
