MUMBAI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his 345th death anniversary on Saturday. He was accompanied by the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
In presence of Amit Shah, Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and BJP MP, demanded a non-bailable law under which anyone insulting Shivaji Maharaj could be denied bail for 10 years.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis supported the demand while addressing the crowd and assured a law against those who insults historical legendary figure.
Amit Shah said that Shivaji Maharaj is an inspirational king and his fighting for Swaraj will continue even in next generations.
The function witnessed speeches by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
However, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who was also present on stage, was not given the opportunity to address the crowd.
In the recent past, the state have witnessed heated political exchanges over historical narratives, including figures like Aurangzeb.
