Analyzing where every team could finish this season

IPL 2025 is heating up, as all 10 teams are striving hard and taking one step at a time towards booking a spot in the playoffs. After the first 13 matches of the season, teams that have never won have dominated the points table. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals are yet to lose a game and are in the top 3 positions.

Teams that have won multiple titles in the past, like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders, are in the bottom half of the table. The defending champions KKR are in the last position. However, these are still the early stages of the league. In a tournament like the IPL, anything could happen, leading to unexpected scenarios every few days.

Predicting each team’s position in the league stage in the IPL 2025 –

10. Rajasthan Royals

Given how they have performed so far, the Rajasthan Royals might suffer a wooden spoon fate. Their bowling does not seem threatening enough. Likewise, some of their key players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag are yet to fire. Bowlers win tournaments and RR do not have a great attack, which could cost them big time.

Much like RR, LSG lacks a good bowling unit. They do not have a world-class pacer who can operate at the death. Their bowling mostly has young Indian pacers along with Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur. Not to forget, their key batters like Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and David Miller have struggled to get going.

8. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders have unexpectedly failed to perform as well as one would have expected. The defending champions are in the last spot in the points table currently. Almost all of their batters are out of form, which hasn’t helped their good bowling lineup. While they might improve, expecting a playoff spot could be a stretch.

7. Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are struggling in different departments. Their top order and the middle order lack firepower and intent. In the bowling department, they do not have a supportive pacer to Khaleel Ahmed in the Powerplay overs. Key spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja haven’t been at their best either.

6. Mumbai Indians

MI has some key concerns in IPL 2025. The absence of Jasprit Bumrah has hurt them badly, as expected. The poor form of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma with the bat could put pressure on the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton. MI could struggle away from home, especially on slow surfaces.

Much like the 2024 season, SRH’s team in IPL 2025 is batting heavy. While they have some world-class bowlers, they haven’t been able to have an impact on the side. Even in the batting department, early wickets could mean their doom, as there is no anchor in their lineup. They might just fall short of a playoff spot.

4. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals seem to be a good team. Their bowling, in particular, has been impressive in the initial matches. While they have some issues in their batting, especially in the middle order, DC must be able to enter the playoffs. They might just pip SRH and MI to make it to the playoffs by finishing fourth in the league stage.

3. Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans have what it takes to win the title. As the saying goes, GT’s bowling could win them the title. On paper, the Titans have the strongest bowling attack alongside DC. Their batting beyond the top 3 is yet to fire. However, with time, they might spend some time in the middle and get into the groove to help their team.

2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB is one of the two teams to have the most balanced lineups in IPL 2025. As of now, they seem to have all bases covered. Be it batting and bowling in the powerplay overs, middle overs, and the death overs, they have players who have stepped up in each phase. They are serious contenders to win the 18th edition of the league.

Much like RCB, PBKS have a well-oiled unit and are one of the favorites to win right now. What might separate them from RCB by a position could be their home conditions, which could be helpful for the bowlers. PBKS is blessed with good management, which might be key in helping their team to reach their first playoffs in a whopping 11 seasons.
