As per reports, captains of the 10 participating franchises in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League are to report to the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday, March 20. Along with the captains, the managers of all the 10 franchises have been extended invitations to be present too.
The entire duration of the event is said to be four hours. The gathering will culminate with a customer photoshoot with all the skippers in a single frame. Generally, these sort of pre-tournament rituals take place in the same city as the venue for the season-opener. However, this time around, there seems to be a deviation from the same.
Other than Axar Patel who was named the captain of Delhi Capitals quite recently, the leaders of the rest of the franchises were known from before. Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders), and Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) are the captains of the other sides.
Based on the latest updates from various camps, most captains have reported to their respective sides in addition to the players. Most of the players who will be involved in the IPL are coming on the back of the Champions Trophy 2025. The Eden Gardens will host the first game of the season, with KKR taking on each other on Saturday, March 22.
