Mumbai: BJP MLA from Andheri Ameet Satam has urged Mhada to convert a recently cleared 8-acre plot at Juhu into a district-level open-to-sky sports facility. The plot is located opposite Ritumbhara College.
Mhada recently carried out a demolition drive on the plot, which was allegedly converted into a slum by a local builder for over 20 years and illegally included in a slum rehab scheme through submission of forged documents. The plot was barricaded with sheets to prevent entry.
In a letter to Mumbai Board chief officer Milind Borikar, Satam requested the authority to issue an NOC for the sports facility that would benefit locals and youth once all legal hurdles are cleared by the court.
He also submitted a copy of BMC’s Development Plan that shows the plot as reserved for open space and a road. Locals, along with the MLA, had repeatedly complained about encroachments on the plot and had exposed them with the aid of satellite images. tnn
