Cabbie evading payment knocks down sea link toll booth supervisor, drags him for 200m & speeds away

Mumbai: A toll booth supervisor on Bandra Worli Sea Link was knocked down and dragged by a private cab for around 200m after he attempted to stop its driver who evaded toll payment on Monday evening. He sustained injuries to the right hand and the back. Police have lodged an FIR and are tracking the driver down, who had fled from the spot.
According to a complaint filed by the supervisor, Sunil Kumar Kaptansingh (26), the cab driver, headed for Worli, ignored signals to stop for toll payment. “I went to the front after noticing that the cab was trying to get away without paying the toll. Instead of stopping, the cab struck me at high speed. I fell down and was stuck under the car,” said Kaptansingh, adding that the driver then proceeded to drag him along for about 200m. He said other staffers at the toll booth were caught up with rushing him to a hospital and missed alerting police at the Worli end of the sea link, giving the driver the opportunity to escape.
Kaptansingh was taken to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra before being transferred to Sion Hospital for further treatment. He said he had to get stitches to the right hand. “There are scratches on my back, from the waist to the neck.”
A Bandra police officer said the crime was caught on the CCTV camera at the toll booth. “We have sought details of the cab from the regional transport office,” said a police officer from Bandra police station.
Police have invoked BNS sections for endangering life and dangerous driving as well as relevant provisions of Motor Vehicles Act.
