Mumbai: A special Pocso court this week convicted a 55-year-old man and sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment for sexually harassing and assaulting his two daughters, aged 16 and 17, in 2021 by threatening to sell them to foreign nationals.
The mother of the girls supported them and helped file a police complaint. The girls accused their father of rape, but the charge could not be proved in court.
“Daughters feel safe and protected in the hands of their father. These types of incidents are affecting the mental and social health of the victim girls. As the offence is committed by their own father, the mental trauma and harassment of the victim girls cannot be measured…,” special judge Priya P Bankar said.
The accused was also fined Rs 60,000. Of this, Rs 25,000 each will be paid to both victims.
Among witnesses cited by special public prosecutor Veena Shelar were the girls and their mother. TNN
