New Delhi: City residents will soon have online access to all public services from the homepage of the Delhi govt’s official web portal. While reviewing the functioning of the department, information technology minister Pankaj Kumar Singh directed the officials to make the web portal vibrant and regularly update the respective websites of their departments.
Accepting that Delhi govt’s main website, as well as the portals of all departments, did not have much information available and were rarely updated, the IT department gave a presentation to the minister of the advanced version of the portal, which would provide seamless access to public services.
“To ensure ease of navigation for citizens, public services should be prominently accessible from a separate tab on the homepage of the Delhi govt portal. Essential facilities such as the govt’s e-services, water, sewerage, health, PWD, and other public welfare-related services would be displayed upfront, making them user-friendly and accessible,” the minister said.
He added that there was a need for timely updates across all department-specific portals and emphasised that those should be regularly updated through respective heads of departments. The govt, in a statement, said the minister stressed the importance of making the website “citizen-friendly, informative, and seamless”.
“He underlined the need for a clean and accessible design, quick loading times, and a powerful search function to improve usability. Information should not only be easily accessible but also well-organised and searchable for citizens from all backgrounds,” the statement read.
The updated portal will cater to more than 100 departments, featuring “dynamic content, language support, and compatibility with all major browsers.” Singh said security, speed, and ease of use were central to the development process. “The portal is being developed using open-source Drupal technology and will be hosted on scalable cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and resilience,” he said.
Delhi govt had launched a new integrated portal to host more than 180 websites of 50 different departments and autonomous bodies two years ago in April 2023. The govt claimed that the web portals would generate notifications if the content was not updated at regular intervals, which would reach the head of the department concerned as well as the IT officials. However, the content on the websites of most departments was never updated regularly.
