NEW DELHI: The decomposed body of a murdered woman was discovered in a bed box at a house in Vivek Vihar in east Delhi on Friday. Police have apprehended the 55-year-old owner of the house.
Police received a control room alert on Friday about a foul smell emanating from a house. A team from the local police station reached the DDA flats in Satyam Enclave, Vivek Vihar, where the neighbours said that the stench had been noticeable for the past few days. They had suspected something amiss and informed the cops.
“The house was found locked from the outside and there were signs of blood under the rear door,” an officer said. “Inside, we found the decomposed body of a woman wrapped in a blanket and kept in the box bed.” Some clothes were thrown over the body to hide it.
After the cops discovered the bleeding body, it was sent for a postmortem. Police hope that the report will help them ascertain the cause of death. “We suspect the 35-year-old woman was murdered on March 25,” a police officer said.
The place where the crime took place is a tuition centre run by a man, who is also the owner of the house. “We are questioning the man,” the officer said. “He has claimed that he and his family lived elsewhere and he only came here to give tuition to students.”
Another police officer said that the man was giving misleading answers. He had claimed that he hadn’t known the deceased. “However, we have been able to ascertain that the woman was known to the tuition owner,” the officer said. The cops said they were also investigating whether there was just one person or more involved in the murder.
