Dwayne Bravo criticizes reckless batting approach, blames Impact Player rule

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) mentor Dwayne Bravo called out the batters and their way of playing these days, especially in the ongoing IPL 2025. With the new Impact Plaer rule imposed in the tournament, Bravo feels that the batters have become reckless and forgot the basics of batting.

Moreover, he praised the bowlers for being smart and picking up wickets at regular intervals. According to the former player, bowlers are using their brains and analysing the game well before delivering any ball.

The batsmen are not having that value on the wicket anymore. They’re a bit reckless because they play on those flat pitches. Teams are batting longer with the Impact Player, so the value for batsmanship is no longer there. The Impact Player is there, a lot of teams have batted longer, so the value for batsmanship is no longer there,” said Dwayne Bravo, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

So that’s why you see the scores are now starting to drop a bit. Bowlers are getting smarter and they’re trying to use their strengths more,” added Bravo.

The smarts of the game are still required: Bravo

After criticising the batters for playing a reckless game, Dwayne Bravo gave a clear message which might help them in the future. He accepted that KKR has an aggressive batting line up which isn’t helping them much. Batters need to understand and analyse the game well before throwing themselves into it. Bravo advised the batters ‘apply’ themselves more, which will help them in the long run.

“Yes, we are an aggressive batting line-up but that’s not cricket. My message to the batsmen especially is that the basics of the game are still required. The smarts of the game are still required. These guys just need to apply themselves a bit more, and I think they’re getting to understand that,” the KKR men.
