Embrace entrepreneurship, become job creators: Governor to students – The Tribune

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urged students to embrace entrepreneurship and become job creators rather than job seekers. Speaking at the 8th convocation of Shoolini University, he encouraged the graduating students to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development while being responsible citizens.

The Governor highlighted the New Education Policy (NEP), drawing parallels with the ancient learning traditions of Takshila and Nalanda, which focused on holistic education. He emphasised that education should not only impart knowledge but also foster innovation and leadership.

During the convocation, 1,254 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees were awarded, along with 105 PhD degrees. Recognising academic excellence, the university conferred 34 gold medals and 20 merit certificates to outstanding students.

Commending Shoolini University’s efforts in social responsibility, the Governor acknowledged its contributions toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He lauded student volunteers for their active participation in blood donation drives and their collaboration with the YouWeCan Foundation, a cancer awareness initiative founded by cricket legend Yuvraj Singh.

Addressing a growing concern, Governor Shukla also administered an oath to students, urging them to stay away from drugs and act responsibly. “Drug abuse is a serious menace that diminishes potential, disrupts families, and weakens our nation. As educated individuals, you must resist this threat, raise awareness, and lead by example,” he said.

Dr Monika Kannedy, Head of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, New Delhi, attended as the guest of honour. She congratulated the graduates and praised Shoolini University’s commitment to academic excellence and global collaborations.

University Chancellor Prof Prem Kumar Khosla advised students to measure their success not by wealth or power, but by the positive impact they create in society.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla emphasised the university’s commitment to innovation and research, stating that in just 15 years, Shoolini University has made remarkable progress in academia and global partnerships.
