Delhi has a new Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta. She has the support of the central government, which makes her job easier than the last CM’s. But that also means people have high expectations. Delhi is in bad shape, so she must focus on the basics—better roads, cleaner air, and fixing the Yamuna River.
Delhi is a busy city where people arrive every day by train, bus, and airplane. Roads and public transport must work well to keep things moving. But many roads are badly designed or take too long to build, making traffic worse. Public transport isn’t good enough, so people prefer using their own cars and bikes. Delivery workers on two-wheelers zoom around, adding to traffic and pollution. Moving around the city is hard, and even traveling to nearby areas in NCR costs extra because of tolls.
The Yamuna River is a big problem. Many governments have promised to clean it, but nothing has changed. Other cities like Kolkata and Ahmedabad have improved their rivers, turning them into beautiful places for people to enjoy. Delhi needs to do the same.
Another major issue is drainage. Even a little rain causes water to flood the streets because the drainage system is old and broken. There have been many plans to fix it, but nothing has worked so far. Hopefully, this time things will be different.
Most importantly, Delhi is home to people from all over India—students, workers, and professionals. They have different lifestyles and dreams. The new CM must listen to them and respect Delhi’s diversity. That’s what makes this city strong.
