NEW DELHI: The Mumbai Police have implemented a month-long prohibition on the operation of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, para gliders and hot air balloons to safeguard against potential security threats, officials announced on Thursday.
The directive, enforced under section 163 of the “Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita“, will remain effective from April 4 to May 5, as stated by an official.
The directive highlights concerns that hostile elements might utilise these aerial devices to target VVIPs, endanger civilian lives, damage public assets, and disrupt law and order within the Mumbai Police Commissionerate jurisdiction.
The authorities emphasise the necessity of preventive actions to counter possible sabotage attempts through these aerial devices, necessitating the implementation of specific restrictions on such activities within the city limits.
The order specifies that all aerial activities involving drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, and paragliders are prohibited within Mumbai Police jurisdiction, with exceptions granted only for police surveillance or with explicit authorisation from the DCP (Operations).
The order stipulates that violations will result in prosecution under section 223 of the “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita“, which addresses disobedience of lawful orders issued by public servants.
