Government committed to strengthening public transport: Deputy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, in an informal interaction with media persons at Solan today, said that the Transport Department was fully committed to providing timely and quality services to the people of the state.
He said that efforts were underway to strengthen the fleet of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). The state government was in the process of purchasing 600 new buses, including 350 electric and 250 diesel buses to modernize public transport. He said that keeping in view the geographical conditions of the state all new buses being procured would either be 37-seater or 42-seater capacity.
Sh. Agnihotri said that around one thousand old buses were being replaced in a phased manner. He said that no new buses were procured during the tenure of the previous government, whereas the present government was not only purchasing new buses but also making innovative efforts aimed at environmental conservation.
He said that to further enhance connectivity and comfort for passengers we were planning to introduce Tempo Traveller facilities in suitable areas.
Senior Congress leaders and departmental officers were also present on the occasion.
