Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania emphasised the state government’s commitment to the welfare of all sections of society while chairing an awareness programme at Chowari in Chamba. The event was organised under the aegis of the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to raise awareness about various welfare schemes available to labourers and their families.
Nardev Singh Kanwar, Chairman of the Welfare Board, was the special guest at the event.
In his address, Speaker Pathania highlighted several initiatives taken by the Board to support construction workers and their dependents. He said under the Board’s housing scheme, financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh is being provided to widowed, single, destitute, and differently-abled women workers for house construction. He also spoke about a range of social security measures implemented by the state government for the uplift of the working class.
As part of the programme, induction heaters were distributed to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes.
Chairman Nardev Singh Kanwar elaborated on 14 different welfare schemes being run by the Board and said that nearly Rs 1 crore had been disbursed to eligible beneficiaries in the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency over the past year. He stressed the need for more workers to register with the Board and mentioned that digital cards are now being issued to ensure transparency.
District Labour Welfare Officer Shweta Kumari also shared detailed information about the schemes during the session.
Separately, while addressing a public gathering at Nardal village in Gram Panchayat Parchhod, Speaker Pathania announced that Rs 686 crore had been allocated for various development projects under the Jal Shakti Department in the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency.
He inaugurated a lift irrigation scheme constructed at a cost of Rs 160 lakh at Nardal, which is expected to provide irrigation to around 60 hectares of agricultural land in the area.
