Mumbai: The sudden removal of property and layout databases from govt websites has shocked the real estate industry, which relies on them to verify details, plan construction, and secure timely approvals.
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India-Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (CREDAI-MCHI) and the Practising Engineers, Architects, Town Planners Association (PEATA) said the digital blackout has had a cascading effect and has urged the govt to reinstate online details of property registration card, cess details of Mumbai city properties, and layout sheets of 114 MHADA layouts that have disappeared from govt websites. They also pointed out the layout information still available on Mhada website is outdated and lacks current prorate and FSI details, critical for urban planning and construction.
In letters to deputy CM Eknath Shinde, who holds the urban development portfolio, and revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the groups pointed out that the sudden disappearance of these digital resources has increased delays by 15-20 days due to physical verifications. “For citizens planning to build or renovate homes, professionals working to ensure compliance and safety, online access to accurate property data is not a luxury but a necessity,” said Dominic Romell, president of CREDAI-MCHI.
Milind Changani of PEATA said, “The sites provide data required for conducting project studies crucial for pr-esenting facts to societies and landlords to move forward with redevelopment.” TNN
