HC extends interim relief to Buch and five others

Mumbai: Bombay High Court on Tuesday continued its relief for former Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and extended an interim stay to prevent the registration of an FIR against her and five other officials over alleged stock market violations.
The HC relief was also for Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) MD Sundararaman Ramamurthy. The HC single-judge bench of Justice S G Dige last month stayed as “mechanical” an order of the Mumbai special trial court for the registration of the First Information Report (FIR). An FIR would have set criminal justice proceedings in motion against Buch and others. The trial court directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to register an FIR against them for an alleged wrongful 1994 listing of a company, “oversight failure” and “criminal misconduct”.
On Tuesday, HC allowed Buch and others to file a rejoinder, if any, to an affidavit filed by the complainant.
The next hearing is on May 7, and until then, the interim relief will continue, said HC. tnn
