The Gujarat Titans (GT) will be hosting the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their opening game of IPL 2025. The side will be led by India’s young star batter, Shubman Gill, who has been receiving a lot of praise from his teammates. One of the players who has lauded the 26-year-old extensively is star pacer and current teammate Mohammed Siraj.
This will be the second time Gill will be leading the 2022 IPL champions. Though fans have been evaluating his leadership abilities, it seems that Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has full confidence in the Champions Trophy winner. He described Gill as a “bowler’s captain” and spoke about their strong bond, recalling the moments they have shared in the Indian team and their debuts together in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy back in 2020.
“Shubman is a very good captain, and he is a bowler’s captain. Whatever the bowlers ask for, he provides. He gives that freedom to the bowlers. Our relationship is good, and whenever Rishabh Pant, Shubman, Axar Patel, and I are together outside, we usually roam around and have dinner together. So, our bonding is very strong. Our Test debut was also together (against Australia at Melbourne in 2020), which makes our connection even better,” Siraj said during an interview with Boria Majumdar.
Siraj on working with Ashish Nehra
There is no doubt that Siraj was one of the top bowlers for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he played for the last seven years. He will now be looking forward to making his debut for GT, which will be the third franchise he represents in the IPL. Additionally, he will be working with former 2011 World Cup winner Ashish Nehra, who is the head coach of the franchise. Siraj has openly praised Nehra for his calm nature and the opportunity to learn from him.
“He is a legend. I get to learn a lot from him. The way he stays calm is very important. But I do not like to stay calm. Shami (Mohammed Shami) bhai also played here, and he was taking a lot of wickets with the new ball. I would like to do the same—take as many wickets as possible with the new ball and keep my team ahead,” the 2020-21 Gabba hero added.
