In 6-day drive, city’s h’ways get cleaned

Mumbai: A special cleanliness drive was conducted along the Eastern and Western Express Highways between March 17 and 22.
The cleaning drive ran from 10 PM to 6 AM and involved cleaning a total of 79 kilometres of roads. In this, a total of 158.5 tons of debris, 35.4 tons of waste, and 24.5 tons of other discarded items were collected and disposed of.
The drive included cleaning service roads, ramps, directional signs, tree bases, and fences, painting, cleaning bus stops, organising seating arrangements, removing clutter and waste, eliminating obstructive or abandoned vehicles, and unauthorised advertisement boards, repairing and painting pavement blocks and dividers.
With the help of 16 mechanical cleaning units, including mechanical power sweepers, litter pickers, misting machines, dumpers, and water tankers, extensive cleaning was carried out on both highways.
