BCCI Announces New Rules: Saliva Ban Lifted, Two Balls Introduced to Counter Dew
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face off in their first encounter of IPL 2025 on Sunday, March 23, at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Two new rules—the lifting of the saliva ban and the introduction of two balls to counter the impact of dew—have been announced.
The tournament will be played with a grouping system. Teams will play others within their group twice while facing teams from the opposing group only once—except for one seeded team, which they will play twice.
For example, CSK, seeded first in Group A, will play Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings twice. In Group B, Mumbai Indians are the top-seeded team and the only side CSK will play twice from the other group.
Group A: Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings.
Group B: Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants.
