A struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) side has received a timely boost as spearhead seamer Jasprit Bumrah has joined them ahead of the high-voltage clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday, April 07 in IPL 2025. However, what remains to be seen is whether the Indian Test vice-captain is available for selection straightaway for the five-time champions.
The last update about Bumrah, who had been undergoing rehab since January following a stress-related discomfort in his lower back, was on April 4, when it was reported that he would not be available for the game against RCB at the very least before returning to action. While there is no concrete update on his selection for Mumbai’s upcoming clash against the Rajat Patidar-led side, at least his addition to the squad indicates that his much-awaited comeback is not too far away.
Bumrah’s presence will also add a lot of value to the side as it is going through a lean patch. His presence will inspire the troops, and young bowlers like Ashwani Kumar will be able to pick his brains and hone their craft.
Bumrah had been building his bowling workload in recent weeks at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and, as of April 4, was understood to be close to taking the final round of fitness tests. He would have been allowed to join MI only after getting the all-clear from the BCCI medical team at the state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru.

Mumbai Indians have gone on to win championships from much more precarious positions in the past. They are slow starters who get better as the season progresses. So far, the Hardik Pandya-led side has lost three out of their first four games, and is languishing at No. 8 on the points table. After finishing last in IPL 2024, the MI management will hope for a resurgence this season.
