A Haryana resident has been arrested for allegedly being involved in the shooting incident of former Congress former MLA from Bilaspur Bumber Thakur, the police said here today.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar (24), a resident of Goela Kalan village in Jhajjar district. After being arrested, the accused was presented in the court from where he was sent to police remand till April 7.
SP Bilaspur Sandeep Dhawal confirmed the report and said further investigation is underway.
Earlier, four more accused identified as Manjeet Nadda, Ritesh Sharma, Rohit Rana and Sagar were arrested by the police for being involved in the incident. These accused are already under police remand.
According to the police, one of the accused Ritesh had helped the shooters in fleeing from the crime scene in his vehicle after the latter fired shots outside the residence of Thakur, while the other two were involved in recce of Thakur’s house. Similarly, Sagar, a shooter, who was involved in the shooting incident, was arrested from Delhi.
Bumber Thakur was shot at at his residence in Bilaspur during Holi celebrations due to which he sustained a bullet wound on his thigh. His PSO was also injured in the incident. Thakur was then brought to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla for treatment, from where he was relieved today. During the treatment, he had also made allegations against the drug mafia for being responsible for the attack.
Later, a four-member special investigating team under by DIG (Central Range) Soumya Sambasivan was constituted to investigate the case.
