Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Jitesh Sharma not just flexed his batting muscle but also displayed sharp awareness with the gloves, playing a crucial role in orchestrating the dismissal of Mumbai Indians’ opener Ryan Rickelton’s wicket. While RCB posted 221/5 on the board in their allotted 20 overs, the home team’s chase suffered early challenges, including the smart DRS call that led to Rickelton’s exit.
Meanwhile, the incident took place in the fourth over of the chase after Rickelton hit four brilliant boundaries in his 10-ball 17. He was undone by Josh Hazlewood’s back-of-a-length delivery that straightened just enough to beat his bat swing. Despite the on-field umpire turning down the appeal, Jitesh was quick to convince skipper Rajat Patidar to review. Replays showed no bat involved, and Hawk-Eye confirmed the ball would have gone on to hit the top of the middle and leg.

RCB had earlier posted a total after being asked to bat first. Openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal took the responsibility on themselves after losing Phil Salt early and put a much-needed 91-run stand. Kohli led from the front with a 67 off 42 balls, while Padikkal chipped in with a 37. Post that, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar smashed a quick 64 off 32 deliveries. Jitesh finished well with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 40 off just 19 balls, guiding RCB to 221/5 in their 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah was MI’s pick of the bowlers, conceding just 29 runs in his four overs despite going wicketless. The rest of the MI attack looked ineffective against RCB batters. Chasing 222 for victory, Mumbai needed a strong start. Rohit Sharma, back after an injury layoff, looked good initially, hitting back-to-back boundaries off Yash Dayal and a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to kickstart the chase. However, Dayal sent the veteran batter packing for 17 off 9 balls by castling his stumps.
