The Kangra district administration has made elaborate arrangements to manage the influx of pilgrims visiting religious shrines at Jwalamukhi, Kangra and Chamunda Devi during the Chaitra Navratra fair, set to begin later this month. According to official sources, helpline numbers have been made public for pilgrims’ assistance. Ambulance services with proper medical infrastructure will be available round the clock. A large number of police personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth operations.
To prevent overcrowding, new parking lots have been developed 2-3 km from the temples. Entry into the temple complex will be regulated through slips issued by the administration. The police, equipped with wireless communication, will ensure an organised movement of devotees, releasing them in small groups to prevent stampedes. Separate entrances and exits have been designated at all temples for better crowd control.
Even before the official start of the festival, large crowds of devotees have started arriving. During a visit to Jwalamukhi, it was observed that all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of Navratra festivities are in place. The temple administration expects a daily footfall of 30,000 to 35,000 devotees. To accommodate the rush, temples will remain open till late midnight throughout the festival.
