Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur’s persistent efforts have resulted in the allocation of Rs 3.35 crore under the AMRUT Yojana Phase 2.0. This funding will be used to repair damage caused by recent flash floods in Kullu town and implement preventive measures to reduce future risks. Additionally, new amenities, including lifts at various locations, will be installed to enhance accessibility for residents and tourists.
Recognised for his commitment to transforming Kullu into a leading tourist destination, Thakur is spearheading a comprehensive master plan to upgrade the city’s infrastructure. A survey will soon be conducted to improve public amenities, with various departments collaborating on this ambitious model.
Under the master plan, key areas such as Sultanpur, Upper Sultanpur, Lower Dhalpur, Lankabaker, and Hanumani Bagh, which currently lack lifts, will soon have them for public convenience. The redevelopment of Dhalpur Mall Road aims to replicate the charm of Manali Mall Road while diverting traffic from Circular Road and Hospital Road.
Flood protection measures are also a priority, with embankments along the Beas River being strengthened. A Bailey bridge is under construction in Pirdi, connecting to the Kullu bypass road, while the Dhalpur bypass road is being developed from Pirdi to Bhootnath Bridge in Sarwari. Additionally, plans are underway for a cycle track and jogging path from Ramshila to Pirdi Bridge. The Dhalpur grounds will also undergo enhancements to boost the city’s aesthetic appeal and functionality.
Tourism in Kullu has surged since the introduction of paragliding at Peej Hill, and further expansion is expected with the planned installation of ropeways to Bijli Mahadev and Peej. The addition of lifts and other facilities will further promote tourism and economic growth.
Kullu MC president Gopal Krishan Mahant expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and MLA Sunder Singh Thakur for securing these funds. “Kullu suffered extensive damage during the recent rains. With this financial support, we can restore affected areas and take preventive measures,” he said.
The funds will be used for constructing lifts, embanking the Sarwari rivulet for flood protection, and repairing damage caused by flash floods. Mahant highlighted that the MC had earlier received Rs 62 crore under the AMRUT-I scheme but emphasized the need for additional funding to fully execute the master plan envisioned by MLA Thakur.
These initiatives mark a significant step towards making Kullu a more resilient and well-developed city.
