Mumbai: The state’s first National Lok Adalat on Saturday disposed of over 7 lakh cases. The Adalat, held across the state under the guidance of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, recovered over Rs 42 crore in over 5 lakh traffic e-challan cases where notices were only sent online.
Over 5.2 lakh pre-litigation cases were settled, and nearly 2 lakh post-litigation cases, including those pending in courts, were resolved, said the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority. Justice A. S. Chandurkar, Executive Chairman of MSLSA, oversaw the Lok Adalat organised in 3 High Court Legal Services Committees, 34 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), and 305 Taluka Legal Services Committees.
The alternate dispute resolution method is a legally effective way to get final closure in disputes and a win-win, as the parties get a refund of the entire court fees when matters are settled in a Lok Adalat, said MSLSA. The next Lok Adalat will be on May 10.
