MI vs RCB, Match 20 – Full highlights, top moments & winner details

Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious over Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in Match 20 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 7. This marked RCB’s third win of the season. 

RCB amassed 221 with the bat. A couple of 60s from Virat Kohli (67 off 42) and Rajat Patidar (64 off 32) after Phil Salt was sent back to the pavilion early on laid the foundation for Jitesh Sharma (40* off 19) to go all guns blazing at the end. Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya secured two-wicket hauls apiece. 

In reply, MI were completely out of the equation at the halfway stage. From the 13th over, Hardik and Tilak Varma fought it out and made a valiant effort for the home side to get as close to the target as possible. However, both of them were dismissed by Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, respectively. Krunal’s final over was when he defended 19 runs and picked up three wickets, finishing with four wickets to his name.

1. Trent Boult rattles Phil Salt early on

Boult came back superbly well to get rid of Salt after being struck for a boundary on the first delivery of the game. It was a truly excellent inswinging delivery by the left-arm seamer to which Salt had not answer.

2. Rajat Patidar leads from the front with a captain’s knock

Patidar might have taken nine deliveries to register his first boundary, but there was no stopping him once he was set at the crease. He took a special liking to his opposition number, accumulating four fours and two maximums off Hardik’s bowling.

3. Hardik Pandya’s fiery blitz keeps MI’s chase alive

Hardik arrived at the crease with MI in all sorts of trouble at 99/4 at the end of 12 overs. Hardik combined with Tilak to give MI a realistic chance of victory. His first five balls of the innings, in which he carted Hazlewood for 20 runs, set the tone for him.

4. Combined effort by Phil Salt, Tim David land telling punch on MI’s hopes

The second delivery of the final over of the game by Krunal produced an outstanding effort in the deep by Salt and Tim David. A massive mow off the bat of Deepak Chahar had the ball travelling towards the deep midwicket fence. Salt collected the ball over his head and promptly parried it to David, situated inside the fence.
