Mumbai: Following local residents’ objections to the proposed jetty near Radio Club in Colaba due to potential traffic disruptions, Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator and two-time BMC corporator Rais Shaikh wrote to the port minister, Nitesh Rane, urging him to engage institutes such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) to thoroughly study potential traffic issues and provide solutions.
In his letter to Rane, MLA Shaikh said that the proposed location already experiences traffic congestion, and there are concerns that the addition of the jetty could escalate this issue, severely affecting local residents. “WRI has extensive experience in traffic management and urban planning, having worked on critical projects such as the Nagpada Junction and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Junction. Their expertise could provide a more accurate assessment of the current traffic situation, potential disruptions, and possible solutions,” explained Shaikh. Just a day ago, local MLA Rahul Narwekar met residents to discuss the issue, along with former corporator Makrand Narwekar. Both assured the community of their full support and said efforts were underway at the govt level to relocate the proposed jetty. tnn
