Nitish Kumar Reddy makes revelation on being brutally sledged by SRH teammate in MCG Test


Young India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has recently opened up about the light-hearted sledging exchange with Australian batter Travis Head during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Travis Head had a playful moment on the field when the Indian all-rounder was batting in the Melbourne Test.

Notably, Reddy and Head are the teammates, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Well, the Indian all-rounder revealed that the Australian batter attempted to break his concentration with a cheeky conversation about partying after the match during his impressive knock of 114 runs off 189 balls in the first innings in the Melbourne Test.

Youngster further revealed that Head even tried to distract him by talking about Melbourne’s nightlife. However, Reddy stayed focused and responded to his SRH teammate in a witty manner. But the banter didn’t stop there, as Head, while fielding at short leg, jokingly warned Reddy not to hit the ball in his direction in another Test, and he would return the favor when he came on to bowl.

Nitish Kumar Reddy said in a podcast with Puma India, “Travis came up to me and said, ‘Nitish, where are you going to party tonight?’—knowing fully well that I wouldn’t. Then he went on, ‘Australia is such a great place. Melbourne is an amazing city; you have to go out and chill.’

He was just trying to distract me. I just told him, ‘Okay, Travis, one day we’ll both go and party!’ During another match, he was fielding at short leg and warned me, “Nitish, if you hit me, I’ll hit you when you bowl!”

Meanwhile, the young Indian all-rounder also recalled a funny and memorable story about how he got a pair of Virat Kohli’s shoes during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.

Reddy revealed before laughing, “(Kohli) asked Sarfaraz (Khan), ‘Sarfu, tera size kya hai?’ (Sarfaraz, what’s your shoe size?), and he said, ‘Nine.’ Then he turned to me, and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I have to guess this correctly,’ because even if they weren’t my size, I really wanted his shoes. I said, ‘10,’ and he gave them to me.”

After scoring his maiden Test century at the MCG, Nitish Reddy looked for his father in the crowd but couldn’t find him. Later, he saw his father on the big screen in tears, and this moment he will always remember. Another unforgettable moment for Reddy was when Virat Kohli approached him and praised his wonderful performance, making the achievement even more special.

Nitish Reddy set for IPL 2025 action with SRH

After his impressive performances in Australia, Nitish faced injury setbacks, including a side strain that ruled him out of the T20I series against England at home. Now, the youngster is fully fit and ready for the upcoming IPL 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

SRH will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
