The police on Friday night carried out checks at various sensitive locations and search suspicious vehicles and individuals near the inter-state border on the Abohar–Sriganganagar Road under ‘Operation Satark’.
The operation has been launched in the wake of reports of drug traffickers, primarily from Fazilka, Tarn Taran and Amritsar districts, travelling to villages along the international border in Sriganganagar and Anoopgarh to collect heroin packets dropped by Pakistani smugglers using drones.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh Brar led the night-dominance operation, during which personnel from various police stations in the Abohar sub-division set up checkpoints and conducted thorough checks on dozens of vehicles entering Punjab and those heading towards Rajasthan at midnight.
Officials stated that police are committed to identifying and apprehending criminal elements in a professional and determined manner. They added that drug trafficking across the interstate border and from areas within Punjab will be rooted out with the active support of the public, encouraging citizens to come forward without fear and share crucial information.
In addition to strengthening the second line of security along the international border, police also focused on inter-district and inter-state checkpoints during the operation. Security measures were further reinforced in these areas. Along with bus stands and railway stations, other important and sensitive locations were also covered. Police verified the identities and locations of suspicious individuals as part of the drive.
