NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra‘s plea seeking direction that details of ‘alternate investment funds’ and ‘foreign portfolio investors‘ investing in the stock market in the country be made public and asked her to first raise her grievances before Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi)
A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma allowed the Trinamool Congress member to make a detailed representation to Sebi ventilating her grievances. Though advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for her, pleaded that the her petition be kept pending, the court, however, said that she can avail legal remedy including approaching the court against if her representation was not considered within reasonable time
Bhushan told the court that Rs 10 lakh crores are under the control of the foreign portfolio investors and alternative investment funds and people should know how much and where they are investing money.
