Big relief but as a team we talk about the process – Rishabh Pant

Opting to bowl first in the match, Lucknow Super Giants shocked Sunrisers Hyderabad and shattered their dream of 300 runs. ‘Lord’ Shardul Thakur led the charge with his 4-wicket haul and other bowlers picked up one wicket each to restrict the opposition to 190/9 in 20 overs.

With the bat, Nicholas Pooran (70) and Mitchell Marsh (52) demolished the SRH bowling unit. Although LSG faced a few hiccups, they managed to complete the run-chase in 16.1 overs.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Rishabh Pant said that winning against SRH was a big relief, but they believe in focusing more on the process and not on results. He said:

“Big relief, but as a team, we talk about the process. It’s not about getting too high when you win and not about getting too low when you lose.”

As a team, we can’t focus on uncontrollables – Rishabh Pant

While talking about missing the Indian pace-bowling unit due to injury issues, Rishabh Pant said that they focus on controllables and lauded Prince Yadav and Shardul Thakur for their bowling brilliance. He stated:

“As a team, we can’t focus on uncontrollables, my mentor said focus on controllables and that is what I did. Good to see the way Prince bowled and also Thakur was really good.”

Rishabh Pant also showered rich praise on Nicholas Pooran but said that Team LSG haven’t played their best cricket yet. He stated:

“(On Pooran) You got to give someone the charge when he is batting well and batted brilliantly for us. The group is coming up nicely, we haven’t played our best so far but happy to get a win.”

How did LSG perform in the previous IPL match against SRH?

Lucknow Super Giants last took on Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8 in the 57th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 in Hyderabad. They faced a humiliating 10-wicket loss in the match with 62 balls remaining.

Opting to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) endured a nightmarish outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Quinton de Kock (2), Marcus Stoinis (3), and KL Rahul (29 off 33) fell cheaply as they struggled against pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Also, Krunal Pandya got run out for 24 and LSG were left reeling at 4/66.

After that, Ayush Badoni (55* off 30) and Nicholas Pooran (48* off 26) provided LSG with a late flourish, but they were only able to post 165/4 on the board. The duo put up an unbroken 99-run stand off 52 balls.

Defending the total, LSG bowlers had no answers to the assault from Travis Head (89* off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (75* off 28) as they made a mockery of the bowling attack, chasing down the target in just 9.4 overs.

All five bowlers conceded over 14 runs per over. Yash Thakur (0/47 in 2.4 overs) and Ravi Bishnoi (0/34 in 2 overs) were particularly expensive. The defeat not only dented LSG’s morale but also made team owner Sanjiv Goenka extremely furious, who blasted KL Rahul on the field.
