Rs 100cr drugs seized in NE; Shah says 'no mercy for cartels'

NEW DELHI: A crackdown on an international drug cartel’s operations has yielded a staggering haul of methamphetamine tablets valued at around Rs 100 crore, along with the capture of four key figures operating in the Imphal and Guwahati zones.
Home minister Amit Shah lauded the investigation by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), noting that it underscored the Modi government’s pursuit of a drug-free India.
“No mercy for drug cartels…Accelerating the Modi govt’s march to build a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets has been seized,” he said on X.
Twin operations led to the seizure of around 110 kg of the drug, popularly known as ‘Ice’ or ‘Yaba’. They were being smuggled in hidden cavities in vehicles. The source of the contraband was Moreh in Manipur. In the first operation on March 13, NCB officials intercepted a truck near the Lilong area in Manipur and recovered 102 kg of methamphetamine tablets from the tool box/cabin in the rear section of the vehicle.
On the same day, NCB Guwahati Zone officers intercepted a SUV on Assam -Mizoram border near Silchar, and on thorough inspection recovered 7.48 kg of meth tablets concealed inside the spare tyre of the vehicle.
