The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) organised a special event on Saturday to mark Loan Day for Self-Help Groups (SHGs), aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment. Chamba DC Mukesh Repaswal was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the DC emphasised the significance of Loan Day in strengthening the rural economy and empowering women through financial assistance. He highlighted that the initiative, under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), enables SHG women to engage in income-generating activities, fostering self-sufficiency and financial independence. He also stressed the importance of coordination between banks and SHGs, ensuring that more groups can access loan facilities in the future. During the event, Rs 3.05 crore in loans was distributed to 112 women from various SHGs. The DC also honoured financial literacy community resource persons with certificates of appreciation for their efforts in motivating women to apply for loans and facilitating the highest number of loan cases in banks.
To further boost economic opportunities for SHG women, he announced the launch of “Him-Ira” stalls at Chaugan in Chamba town, which will be set up every Monday to showcase and sell products made by SHG women.
