Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play their second successive home game, while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be on the road once again as the two sides gear up for their second match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025).
SRH showcased their trademark explosive batting in the previous game, putting up a record total against RR in Hyderabad. Travis Head led the charge in the powerplay, while Ishan Kishan carried the momentum throughout the innings. Head smashed a quickfire fifty, and Kishan became the first Indian batter to score an IPL century for SRH. Supported well by his teammates, the Orange Army posted a mammoth 286—the second-highest total in IPL history. Jofra Archer endured a forgettable outing, conceding 76 runs—the most expensive spell in IPL history.
RR lost early wickets in their pursuit of a record chase, but Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel crafted scintillating fifties. Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey capitalised on their efforts, leading to a match aggregate that became the second-highest of all time in T20 cricket.
Meanwhile, LSG suffered a heartbreaking loss against DC in a thriller at Visakhapatnam. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran scored blazing 70s, but Kuldeep Yadav bowled DC back into the game, restricting the Rishabh Pant-led outfit to 210 after they initially aimed for 230+.
DC’s chase got off to a nightmare start as Shardul Thakur’s double strike in the first over put them on the back foot. Despite their efforts, a way back seemed unlikely.
It eventually came down to Ashutosh Sharma and debutant Vipraj Nigam, with 92 runs needed off the last eight overs. Sharma started slowly, but Nigam played a sensational knock, scoring 39 off just 15 balls and setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Even with a significant number of runs still required, Sharma held his nerve and sealed a last-wicket win under thrilling circumstances in the final over.
