Stats Review of player records and achieved milestones

Mumbai Indians suffered their third loss in four matches in IPL 2025 after going down to Lucknow Super Giants in a thriller at Lucknow.

MI put the hosts in, but ran into a rampaging Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) in the powerplay. Aiden Markram (53 off 38) got a fifty after a long while, but he hadn’t arrived to the party till much later. Marsh blunted MI’s famed powerplay bowling prowess and contributed 60 to an opening partnership of 76. His dismissal in the seventh over opened the floodgates for MI to get in, but MI’s bowlers had an off-day. Ayush Badoni and David Miller kept it going towards the finish, but Hardik Pandya (5 for 36) managed to put the situation in control.

MI’s chase didn’t get off to the best start as both Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks departed within the third over. Naman Dhir (46 off 24) got a surprise promotion to No. 3 and put up a crucial stand with Suryakumar Yadav (67 off 43). Yadav kept going at it on one end, despite Tilak Varma not managing to get any hits in. Varma eventually had to be retired out near the end of the chase, and despite Pandya (28* off 16) doing his best, LSG’s fast bowlers in the death held their nerve and delivered the win with the cushion they had. Player of the Match Digvesh Rathi (1 for 21) eventually proved the diffrence in a 12-run win when all his other teammates went for over 40 runs in their 4 overs.

Here are the most important stats from the game:

53 – The number of IPL matches played by Rohit Sharma for Mumbai Indians since the last time he missed one before this match.

7 – Suryakumar Yadav became the seventh player to play 100 IPL matches for MI. CSK are the only other team to have even five such players.

10 – Mitchell Marsh became the tenth player to hit 60 or more runs in the powerplay in a single IPL innings.

1 – Mitchell Marsh became the first player in the IPL, and the third in all T20s to face 30 balls in the powerplay in a single innings. Chanderpaul Hemraj in CPL 2021 and Tamim Iqbal in BPL 2022 are the others.

2 – While there is plenty time to improve it, Rishabh Pant’s batting average of 4.75 in this year’s IPL is the second lowest by a captain in a single season with a minimum of 4 innings. Shane Warne had a batting average of 2 in 2010.

28 – David Miller became the 28th player, and the ninth from outside India, to complete 3,000 runs in the IPL.

1 – No bowler has dismissed David Miller more times in T20s than Hardik Pandya’s seven.

1 – Hardik Pandya is the first captain to take a fifer in the IPL. The previous record for best bowling figures by a captain in the IPL were Anil Kumble’s identical figures of 4 for 16 against the Deccan Chargers in both 2009 and 2010.

1 – Hardik Pandya has the joint second-most wickets as captain in the IPL matching Anil Kumble’s 30 scalps in charge. Only Shane Warne (57) has more.

8 – Hardik’s fifer was the eighth by an MI bowler in the IPL. The next best by any team is five by RR.

2 – Hardik Pandya’s fifer is the second most expensive fifer in IPL history behind Yuzvendra Chahal’s 5 for 40 against KKR in 2022. In third place is Mitchell Starc’s 5 for 35 against SRH from earlier this year.

2 – LSG’s 203/8 is the second highest total in Lucknow not just in IPL, but in all T20s. In first place is KKR’s 235 against LSG in 2024.

2 – Pandya now has the joint second most three wicket hauls among captains in the IPL. Shane Warne had five such hauls while Hardik, Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh all have three.

4 – Tilak Varma became the fourth player to be retired out in the IPL. R Ashwin famously became the first in 2022, while Atharva Taide and B Sai Sudharsan also went through this fate in 2023.

3 – Hardik Pandya is only the third player to score 25 runs and take a fifer in the same IPL match. Ravindra Jadeja against Deccan Chargers in 2012 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Gujarat Titans in 2023 are the other two.

6 – The number of matches LSG have won against MI in the IPL, out of the seven they have played. Incidentally, the only game in the IPL where MI beat LSG was the Eliminator of the 2023 season.
