New Delhi: A businessman from central Delhi’s Chawri Bazar lost Rs 1 lakh due to a weak password he set on his mobile phone. His password was a simple six-digit sequence starting from 1.
His phone was stolen near Pitampura Metro Station while he was on his way home. Later, he discovered that the thief made multiple transactions from his UPI account to other accounts. One of the suspects was arrested.
A police officer said that the incident took place on March 15, and a case was registered with the cyber police station in Outer Delhi. During the inquiry, it was found that the businessman was about to take a vehicle near the metro station when he was targeted by the thief. “By the time he got the SIM blocked, the money was already debited,” the officer added.
In Feb, two gangs that transfered funds using stolen mobile phones were busted in the city. The gangs, which trained juveniles from Jharkhand in exploiting weak passwords, smuggled 12,000 phones to Bangladesh, Nepal and Bihar. tnn
