Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda today admitted in the Vidhan Sabha that several classrooms in government schools have been declared unsafe by the Public Works Department (PWD). He assured that funds would soon be released for their repair.
Responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal, Dhanda cited examples from Jhajjar district. “At Government Senior Secondary School, Bhadani village, there are 82 students with nine classrooms in good condition. Similarly, in Dhanu village, there are 48 students with five classrooms in good condition, and in Dhanirwas village, 23 students with six classrooms,” he said.
Bhukkal, however, flagged that several condemned school buildings were still functioning. “Has the government learnt nothing from the Rajasthan tragedy?” she asked, stressing on urgent safety measures for students.
Development and Panchayats Minister Krishan Lal Panwar informed the House that the government was working to make Kurukshetra cleaner and decongested.
He said the KDB Road Improvement Scheme was being implemented by the Municipal Council, Thanesar. “Encroachments are being removed and traffic is being organised. A project worth Rs 11 crore has been proposed at Divya Nagar,” he said.
With parking and congestion a recurring issue during festivals, Panwar said six new parking sites were coming up in Sector 10 with capacity for over 250 vehicles. “During the Gita Mahotsav and other major events, a shuttle service will be run from Sector 10 to Brahma Sarovar for the convenience of tourists. This work is expected to be completed by next year,” he added.
Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel said Haryana generates around 6,481 metric tonnes of solid waste every day. Currently, waste management is being handled through four clusters, though one cluster’s allocation was recently cancelled for violating contractual terms.
Replying to Congress MLA Aditya Surjewala, Goel announced a new Ambala–Yamunanagar–Panchkula cluster covering eight towns, including Ambala, Naraingarh, Yamunanagar, Radaur, Barara, Sadhaura, Panchkula, and Kalka.
Referring to lapses by M/s Sugam Swachhta Pvt Ltd, operating the Karnal–Kaithal–Thanesar cluster, he said, “The company has been directed to comply with objections raised by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board. On failure, the Kaithal Municipal Corporation imposed a fine.”
Goel further revealed that the government had identified 2,186 unauthorised colonies and 2,402 sectoral pockets in ULB areas. Of these, 836 colonies and 78 pockets have been listed district-wise. “Development works will soon begin in colonies that have been regularised,” he assured.
Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry informed the Assembly that a permanent plan had been prepared to address chemically contaminated water at the Masani Barrage. She was replying to Rewari MLA Laxman Singh Yadav.
Health Minister Arti Singh Rao said the government was “fully committed to providing quality healthcare facilities to the people of Naraingarh and surrounding areas.”
