UP boy slapped by classmates waits for funds despite SC order

AGRA: An eight-year-old Muzaffarnagar student, who was slapped by classmates allegedly on the instruction of his schoolteacher in Aug 2023, continues to attend class without books as the UP govt has not disbursed the education aid mandated by Supreme Court for over three months, reports Mohammad Dilshad.
The child’s father, Mohammad Irshad, said they had not received any financial assistance in that period, including tuition fees for the current session and reimbursement for books and travel. “Though we received payments for a few months after the SC order in Nov 2023, they have dried up,” he said. “We are struggling to pay the Rs 28,000 to the private school in Khubbapur village, which my son now attends as a Class 4 student. I called the basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) many times, but received no response. I even visited the office, but no one gave a satisfactory response,” he told TOITuesday.
BSA Sandeep Kumar said the boy’s fees had been arranged through an NGO, and will be paid in three or four days. Block education officer Kiran Yadav said she would appear before SC on April 16 with details as the case continues to be monitored by the bench.
