Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a multi-pronged attack on the Congress, cornering it for Muslim appeasement and objecting to the new Waqf law, and targeting it for price hikes in Karnataka and clearing forests in Telangana.
Modi laid out a full defence of the new Waqf law as well, before the Supreme Court hears a clutch of petitions against it this week.
Here are the top 5 big messages from Modi on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti while he delivered two speeches in Haryana:
1. WAQF LAW IS ‘REAL SOCIAL JUSTICE’
Modi said that through the new law, the sacred spirit of Waqf will be respected, and the poor and Pasmanda families of the Muslim society, Muslim women, especially widows, and children will get their rights. “And this is what Babasaheb Ambedkar has given us the task of doing in the spirit of the Constitution. This is the real spirit, this is real social justice,” Modi said. He said the 2013 law passed by UPA benefited only a handful of land mafia, and the land of Dalits, backward people, tribals, and widows was looted.
“After the change in the Waqf law, this looting of the poor is going to stop. And the most important thing is that we have done a very responsible, important work. We have made another provision in this Waqf law. Now under the new law, this Waqf Board will not be able to touch any tribal’s land, his house, his property in any corner of India,” Modi said, saying the 2013 amendments by the UPA had put the old law above the Constitution of India. Muslim youth would not have to spend their lives repairing punctured bicycles like so far, he said.
2. DARE TO CONGRESS
Modi dared the Congress to make a Muslim its party president. He cited how the Congress says they brought the 2013 law for the benefit of Muslims. “I want to ask all these people, I want to tell these vote bank hungry politicians, if you have any sympathy for Muslims in your heart, then why doesn’t the Congress make a Muslim its party president? They give tickets to Parliament, give 50 per cent to Muslims. If they win, they will tell their point. But this is not to be done, the Congress has nothing to give. Taking away and giving the rights of the country, the citizens of the country, their intention has never been to do good to anyone, not even to Muslims. This is the truth of the Congress,” the PM said, trying to expose the Congress hypocrisy.
PM said the Congress’s policy of appeasement caused great harm to the Muslim community and has made only a few fundamentalists happy, while the rest remained uneducated and poor.

3. MUSLIM RESERVATION
The PM targeted the Karnataka government for giving reservation based on religion, saying this was against the ideals of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. “Our Constitution made provision for reservation for SC, ST and OBC. But for playing political games, the Congress stabbed in the back the dream that Babasaheb Ambedkar had seen, the provision made in the Constitution for social justice, and made that provision of the Constitution a means of appeasement. You must have heard in the news that the Congress government of Karnataka has snatched the rights of SC, ST, OBC in the tender and given reservation on the basis of religion. Whereas Ambedkar had clearly said in the Constitution that reservation will not be provided on the basis of religion in this Constitution and our Constitution has banned reservation on the basis of religion,” the Prime Minister said, close on the heels of a caste census placed before the Karnataka Cabinet.
4. KARNATAKA PRICE HIKE
The PM also pointed to the “A to Z” of price hikes in Congress-ruled Karnataka to say there is a clear contrast between the BJP-ruled states and those governed by the Congress.
“In Karnataka, the Congress government has imposed multiple taxes on the people, increasing their financial burden. Even their own ministers have admitted that Congress has made Karnataka number one in corruption,” the PM said.
The Siddaramaiah government has been under fire for the hike in prices of various commodities, as highlighted in a Money Control report. The PM did not lose a chance.
pic.twitter.com/CGeOXaD0e2— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) April 14, 2025
5. TELANGANA FOREST
Modi also targeted the Congress government in Telangana for running bulldozers over forest lands — destroying the forests that were once protected. “In Telangana, the Congress has already begun forgetting the promises they made to the public. Their actions, such as bulldozing forest land and damaging the environment, show a complete disregard for nature,” the PM said.
Recently, the Supreme Court had to intervene to put a stop to such action by the Telangana government. Modi did not lose a chance to target the Revanth Reddy government on this count.
