The CSK fans enjoyed themselves as the team went on to start with a comfortable win against the Mumbai Indians in Match No. 3 of the IPL 2025. As the win remained a formality in the match, star cricketer MS Dhoni stepped out in the middle and saw the team hit the winning runs, which came from the blade of half-centurion Rachin Ravindra.
MS Dhoni, who once used to be a proper middle-order batter for the CSK franchise, has been preferring to bat at No. 8 or even lower for the past couple of seasons. He believes that it is important for someone like him to accept the changing dimensions of T20 cricket, especially in the IPL, and how it is important for him to also mould himself into the format, as a result of which, Dhoni prefers being a proper slogger and rely on boundaries to finish the innings.
“You have to adapt according to the requirements. The way we played T20 in 2008 and the way we played IPL last year—it’s very different. Earlier, there was a lot of turn in the wickets. Wickets were two-paced. Now, India’s wickets have become much better; they are more batter-friendly. The size of the ground remains the same. Also, we have started playing slightly earlier in the season, so factors like dew come into play. That’s also one of the reasons why we are seeing so many high-scoring games,” Dhoni told via JioHotstar.
Batters are now willing to take risks: Dhoni
“Also, batsmen are now willing to take risks. They believe that with proper cricketing shots, they can play big strokes, and at the same time, they are improvising with their shot selection. They are adding new shots—whether it’s a reverse scoop against a fast bowler, a sweep, or a reverse sweep against a pacer. I’m no different, I have to adapt as well. This is what is required of me for where I am batting. You have to try and stay relevant,” the 43-year-old added.
While the experienced cricketer could not add any runs in the last game, he did contribute with a lightning-fast stumping to get rid of Mumbai Indians’ captain Suryakumar Yadav off Noor Ahmad’s bowling in the 11th over. He will be hoping to hit a few big ones in the upcoming games throughout the season.
